Dr. Nizar H. Senussi is a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist with advanced subspecialty training in liver disease and clinical nutrition. His medical expertise spans the full spectrum of digestive and liver disorders, with special interests in hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), metabolic and fatty liver disease, and clinical nutrition. He is known for his thoughtful, evidence-based, and patient-centered approach to care.

Dr. Senussi earned his medical degree from the University of Tripoli School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where he served in leadership roles on multiple quality and education committees. He then pursued a Clinical Nutrition fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, followed by an Advanced/Transplant Hepatology fellowship at Swedish Medical Center – First Hill in Seattle, and finally, a Gastroenterology & Hepatology fellowship at the University of New Mexico, where he served as Chief Fellow.

Before joining Salem Gastroenterology Consultants, Dr. Senussi practiced in Seattle, Washington, where he provided comprehensive gastroenterology and hepatology care. He has been an active member of national professional societies, including the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), where he has served on several committees and as a peer reviewer. His research has been published in leading medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Hepatology Communications, and he has presented multiple abstracts at national conferences, earning awards for his work in liver disease and colorectal cancer prevention.

Dr. Senussi is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is fluent in both English and Arabic.
