Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month: Screening Saves Lives

,
March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of screening and prevention. At Salem Gastro, we want to remind our community that screening for colorectal cancer should begin at age 45 for most adults. Getting screened on time can help detect colorectal cancer early—when it is most treatable—and can even prevent cancer by finding and removing precancerous polyps.

Several effective screening options are available. If you are age 45 or older, or if you have a family history or other risk factors, now is a good time to talk with your provider about which screening test is right for you.

At Salem Gastro, we are committed to helping patients better understand colorectal cancer screening and what to expect before, during, and after the process. To support you this month and throughout the year, we are sharing trusted patient resources from the American Gastroenterological Association:

If you’ve been putting off screening, let March be your reminder: screening saves lives. A colonoscopy remains one of the most effective tools for preventing colorectal cancer because it can find and remove polyps before they turn into cancer. Proper preparation is an important part of making the test as accurate and effective as possible, which is why prep education matters so much.

This Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, take a step toward protecting your health. Learn about your options, understand the costs, and prepare with confidence.
